Heyo! My name is Dyanne, literally Diane spelled with a “y” and an extra “n”. I’m currently a junior attending Yongsan International School of Seoul. Although this is my first year participating in iGEM, I have received the opportunity to serve as the team leader of Korea_HS. This year, I oversaw all three subteams (human practices, collaboration, and Wiki), led the wet lab and team meetings, arranged integrated human practice interviews, and coordinated public engagement activities. Through iGEM, I was able to take away so many valuable lessons from modeling antibody structures via molecular dynamic simulation to organizing the first Korea iGEM Meetup. This unforgettable experience further engendered my deep passion for molecular biology and genetic engineering.

Hi! I’m Shannon, but my friends call me Shanny P the VP at school. I currently attend Chadwick International, the school with the dolphin mascot, which means I have superior intelligence compared to others. This is my first year participating in iGEM, and I am honored to serve my team as the WIKI team leader. I am excited to employ my interest in arts and communication to make our team’s project on antibiotics totally SHINE. Although I’m not as knowledgeable with bioengineering, I have already fallen in love with iGEM and the numerous opportunities it gives to meet and communicate with various people on a global scale. I feel like I should say something related to antibiotics so a fun fact is that I can get really bad coughs sometimes that go for over a month.

Hello! My name is Eunsoo Choi. I attend Branksome Hall Asia as a junior. I really like animals and I’m a big fan of Marvel. This is my first year participating in iGEM. I'm a member of wiki team and my major role is wiki website design. Through the biology classes and workshops in my school, I got interested in bioengineering and synthetic biology. Also, I have been interested in art and design since I was young. As a high school student wanting to major in biology, iGEM would be a great opportunity to have educational and social experiences from the fields that I’m interested in. Working together as a team is really exciting. I’m looking forward to the iGEM competition and the giant jamboree!

Hi guys, I’m Alex, a Sophomore from Deerfield Academy. This is my first year participating in iGEM. I am part of the Wiki team, where my main role is to design the structure of the website using my knowledge in. Although I don’t have the commands in bioengineering as some of the other teammates have, I try my best to meet the expectations of my work quality in and out of labs. Despite, bioengineering is the most interesting subject that I want to continue to pursue throughout my life. Outside iGEM, I am interested in Medicine, Wrestling, and Fashion Design.

Hello! My name is Cheny, currently a sophomore attending 'Iolani School. Though I am one of the members who have most recently joined the Korea_HS team, my fascination and enthusiasm regarding iGEM are incomparable to that of others. Since I was in kindergarten, I have read hundreds of books on numerous areas of science and conducted small experiments on my own, which has helped me gain both knowledge and interest in chemistry, physics, biology, and so on. As biology has been my greatest area of interest, I was literally "ecstatic" to know and participate in this competition. I am looking forward to not only serve and try my best as a member of our team but also receive inspiration from other teams' iGEM topics during the Giant Jamboree! Other than biology, I enjoy drawing and listening to upbeat music.

Hello! My name is Dokwon Lee and I am starting my junior this year at Korea Kent Foreign School. This is my first year attending an international biology competition of such scale and I am excited to work together with other members of my team towards our common goal. This opportunity to take part in the iGEM competition really opened my eyes towards scientific inquiry and study. Only exposed to my school’s science curriculum, I never knew until now how fun research and experiments could be. From this competition I would like to expand my horizons and explore the extents of the world of biology. Personally, I am interested in a variety of subjects with equal passion. However, I love biology and chemistry the most. That is why I was so excited to join such a competitive and challenging biology competition. Besides biology and chemistry, I love to indulge myself in a variety of hobbies including sports, movies, music, debate and so much more. I have so many hobbies because I am a type of person who would go out of his way to try new things and intriguing activities just to satisfy my curiosity. I feel like my range of hobbies and interests allowed me to bond with others easily and will help me in the future. On that note, I hope that by contributing to the completion of the wiki, I will be able to bring my team one step closer to success.

Hello! My name is Bruce Lee, yeah, like the martial artist/movie star Bruce Lee. Actually, I was thinking of Bruce Wayne, but my last name made me a kung-fu master. I am currently 11th grade in CheongShim International Academy, which has the best school meals in all of Korea (not joking, it was in an article) and is also academically superior. I am honored to be the Human Practices team leader, and my interest in physics, biology, and engineering helps me contribute to the team. Although I am the Human Practices Leader, I've done quite a lot of wiki work, 10 pages of it, in fact. I am thrilled by the amount of opportunities iGEM has provided, from communication and connections with other people to the educational value of it. Other than iGEM and more about me, I am a total movie mania. I have watched over 850 movies (yes, I keep track of them). Like movies, I admire the beauty and art (and entertainment) of games, having over 80 games in my STEAM account. Oh, and guns. Did I mention guns?

Hi, I'm Jason Park, 11th grade in HAFS(Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies. In school, l’m one of the students who is crazy about sports. No matter what kind of sport it is, if there is a ball and some people I love to join in. Furthermore, I really enjoy cooking too. I have two siblings and often cook for them. (Last time I tried Antonio CarluccioI’s Real Carbonara and my friends who tasted said that I’d rather change my career to a cook.) I am the co-leader of Human Practice team in iGEM. I applied for Human practice team since I like to communicate with others and build relationships with people. Although I'm studying to work in the field of agriculture management, I ended up participating in iGEM because iGEM is not only related to biology but also external human relations. This particular feature of iGEM is very attractive to me.

Hi my name is Nicole, a junior at APIS (Asia Pacific International School). I am a co-leader of the human practice team. My main role is to design public engagement projects. Though this year is my first year in iGEM, the lab experiments are very interesting. When I was a kid, I used to daydream about myself experimenting with things in the lab. But nowadays I don’t have to daydream anymore, because I got a chance to do the experiment and communicate with our team. Beyond iGEM, I am interested in Psychiatry, anatomy, Volley Ball, and Basketball. Also, I actually am a capable person to do chores that everyone hates to do.

My name is Sean Choe, and I am a junior at KIS. I am a member of the human practice team, where I have coordinated some public engagement activities. Some of my hobbies are playing guitar, basketball, and frisbee. I’ve been playing basketball and frisbee since I was a little kid, and now am almost reaching a year of playing guitar. I can play acoustic and electric, but I would have to say I prefer playing electric due to the variety of sound and ease of play. It’s my first year in iGEM, and the experience has been fulfilling being in the lab and getting to work with the materials and undergoing the procedures. Compared to the school labs that I did in AP bio, the things we do are very similar but also more advanced and much more intricate, which makes the whole process more fun. I’m most interested in STEM fields to pursue in the future as majors, and I think I’m most interested in psychiatry and/or psychology or biochemistry.

Hi! My name is Hyoju (If it’s hard to pronounce, just add a h sound to yo!) and I’m in my junior year at Hanyoung Foreign Language High School. My friends all call me grandma which I actually enjoy being called. (And, I think it suits me quite well) It’s my first time joining IGEM and I’m in the human practice team. I’m so thrilled to dive into bioengineering and antibiotics. And as much as that I can’t wait to see various projects, meet new people and discover new perspectives!! Other than Biology, I’m in love with Pilates which my friends always tease me about. Also, I recently became a huge fan of the Avengers, especially Spiderman.

Hello! My name is Sunwoo Baek. I feel unique to use my Korean name that I prefer to have the only name for myself. This is my first year participating in iGEM and I am a member of collaboration team. I am completely into bioengineering, neuroscience, and antibiotics. I took anatomy and physiology in my school last year, and I recently learned about neuroscience and antibiotics for the last chapter, which is slightly related to our team’s project. The relationships of this competition and what I learned from the school makes me to have more interest and enthusiasm of this iGEM competition! As a collaboration team member, I usually love to communicate and have a potential collaboration with our team, and other teams. Outside the iGEM, I am a midfield defender of our school’s soccer team, looking forward to be a captain soon. When I first joined the soccer team, I was a substitute, but my passion and effort resulted to be a midfield player, with the most potential score ever. I love to learn and fearless for not-knowing, so this iGEM competition is new for me that makes me so excited to be in it with the project. I am ready to unlock my full potential!

Hello! My name is Isaac Kim and I am the youngest member of Korea_HS….by only 22 days. Like our WIKI Team Leader Shannon Park, I attend Chadwick International school as a rising sophomore. What makes me pretty unique is that I am one of the few students in our grade that attended this school from the year it was founded, and the only one who studied at the American chadwick campus. This is my first year in iGEM but I am pretty sure that this won’t be my last because over the course of a few months, I completely fell in love with this competition. My interest in antibiotics and neuroscience has led me to this competition and the fact that we can conduct experiments related to antibiotics with students from different schools and have this much fun is so astonishing! This opportunity is literally a dream come true for me and I just can’t wait to meet so much more talented and passionate iGEMers, along with students who share the same interest as me in neuroscience and antibiotics around the world! My role in this wonderful, passionate, and talented team is to work on collaboration events to cooperate with teams not only in South Korea, but worldwide. My only goal in this competition is to do everything I can to help our team in anyway, and learn more about all of the projects that you guys, my fellow iGEMers are doing! Thank you and lets all have the best time in our lives in this competition!

Sup y’all. I’m Ian. Ian Hwang. Yeah I know, my name is short. I currently attend Asia Pacific International School as a junior. This is my first year in iGEM, and I am very thrilled to expand my bioengineering knowledge and experience throughout iGEM competition. My role is focused on the wiki team and experiment setups. Since I have a good amount of experience in labs, my role in the team is to manage experiments and iGEM wiki. Also, I seek for advice regarding our experiments with Professor Choi and our instructors. Outside of iGEM, I’m a huge NBA and LOL fan. I love playing basketball and league of legends with my buddies, and most importantly, I’m beast at both of them ;). I also play American-football as a starting center/offensive guard for my club team.  For some reason, I always play the ‘big guy’ role in everything, including basketball, football, and LoL. Maybe, I should play the ‘big guy’ role in iGEM as well, somehow.

Hello, I am Ji-Yeon. I am currently a junior in the master's degree program at Seoul National University's Laboratory of Life Sciences and Structural Biology (Professor Choi Jung-woo's Laboratory). In the Korea_HS team, I was in charge of assisting students with their experiments such as pre-testing, preparing, and conducting experiments in the laboratory. When I first got to know iGEM, I felt great to see that students shared their roles and performed well not only in experiments but also with their respective roles! Participation in this contest is a new experience for me, and I feel participating in iGEM has numerous benefits.

Hi! I’m a freshman starting at Johns Hopkins University this year. During my gap year, I had the opportunity to advise an enthusiastic group of high school students who had asked me to mentor their team, as they were all first-year participants. As I participated in iGEM for two years, I provided the team with advice on experiment requirements, types of activity, medal criteria, as well as any other iGEM specific details. It had been a great year as a three-year participant and of transitioning from a high school participant to an advisor. Good luck to all the high school teams out there!!
